Measurement Services

TransCanada Calibrations with its experienced staff can assist with meter and measurement troubleshooting as well as third party dispute resolution. TCC has experience diagnosing and resolving measurement system imbalances, and calculating measurement uncertainty for integrated measurement systems. TCC has provided this assistance to a number of transmission and distribution companies.
TCC's process engineering capability coupled with its experienced technical staff offers a unique blend of technical field audit capability as well as high level uncertainty evaluation and system modeling.

TCC performs on-site technical auditing to determine regulatory compliance, evaluate operation data (flow, pressure, temperature), verify device performance, and audit calibration history. Based on field audit information, TCC will provide a technical report detailing its findings and identifying areas of concern.

As a next step, TCC can determine the calculated (total) measurement capability for the integrated measurement system according to ISO GUM methodology. This is established by calculating measurement uncertainty contributions for constituent devices based on device capability, installation environment,

operational performance, and calibration history. Based upon a detailed evaluation, TCC will generate an operational report describing the best measurement capability that can be provided by the integrated system and identify the greatest contributors to measurement uncertainty.

As a final step, TCC is able to develop a predictive model for the integrated measurement system utilizing in-house proprietary software. With this model, TCC can now change measurement devices, and modify an installation design or environment to determine the most cost effective method to achieve better measurement performance, before committing to a capital investment.

This methodology allows TCC to effectively determine the nature of process and measurement system imbalance in an organized, cost effective, step-by- step manner while providing the customer with immediately useful feedback. Measurement services are typically provided on a service hour cost - not to exceed basis with integrated milestone reporting and review.
