High Pressure Natural Gas Flow Calibration

TransCanada Calibrations operates the largest environmentally controlled indoor natural gas meter proving facility in the world located on TransCanada's mainline at Stn. 41, Ile Des Chenes Manitoba. TCC is capable of providing full range calibration for natural gas measurement devices NPS 4 through NPS 30, up to 60,000 m3/hr, at its state of the art proving facility. TCC is the only meter proving facility in the world that employs dedicated matched-size high resolution check meters for each of its reference runs to ensure measurement integrity. TCC's unique data collection system allows it to sample data from a variety of gas flow metering devices, including: differential pressure measurement devices (orifice plate, v-cone, venturi, corriolis), as well as all turbine and ultrasonic metering systems. TCC is the only North American facility that maintains reference and check meter traceability to the internationally recognized, harmonized, primary standards chains of the NMi (Holland), PTB (Germany), and CESAME LNE (France).

TCC is recognized by Measurement Canada to provide custody transfer meter calibration service, and participates on behalf of Measurement Canada and the National Research Council in international comparisons as the representative national laboratory for fluid flow. TCC maintains a policy of on-going participation in North American and International round robin activities.

All high-pressure natural gas flow meter calibrations at TCC are performed by

trained, certified Instrumentation Engineering Technologists (with Journeyman Instrument Mechanic standing) according to established, documented procedures.

TCC is the only ISO 9001:2000 quality system registered calibration facility in North America. All business and calibration functions are performed according to controlled, documented procedures while TCC maintains and archives records for all activities performed. TCC's quality system is administered and maintained by an independent Quality Manager (certified lead auditor) reporting directly to the President of TCC. Both Internal and external audits are performed on all quality system elements on a regularly scheduled basis.

TCC provides secure web based real-time on-line flow calibration witnessing at no additional charge. Calibration witnesses are able to view digital still photos showing meter run installation with flange alignment. An off-site witness is able to view the same operations screen that TCC utilizes to perform the flow calibration of their device. This screen provides a real-time graphical representation for relative error of meter under test, and pressure, temperature and flow stability. Additionally, on-line witnesses have access to the gas quality page and the developing error curve for the meter under test. This information along with all calibration results is available for immediate viewing and is archived for future reference using secure ID/Password access.
